Liverpool journalist Simon Hughes has made a claim on Reds manager Jurgen Klopp and his future in management.

This comes as Hughes recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Liverpool-themed podcast The Red Agenda, where he spoke about a number of topics concerning the Merseyside club.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

Klopp recently told German media outlet SportBuzzer (via Daily Mail) that he will take a year-long break away from football when he leaves Liverpool at the end of his current contract in 2024.

The Reds boss also added that if he doesn’t miss being involved in football after that year-long break, then he will consider giving up management altogether.

During this latest episode of The Red Agenda, Hughes shared his thoughts on another potential management job Klopp could take after his days at Liverpool come to an end.

He said: “I think he quite fancies the idea of taking charge of the German national team. Joachim’s Low’s been there for a very long time now. Maybe that sort of role might suit him at that point you know, it’s obviously not as intense. The intensity of those matches or those periods of work only come at certain points in the calendar, maybe that might suit him. He’s certainly had no desire to go manage Bayern Munich like a lot of other German managers.”

Klopp was appointed as Liverpool boss back in October 2015. Since then, the German has guided Liverpool to the 2019/20 Premier League title, the 2018/19 Champions League title and also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup along the way. Klopp was given the World’s Best Club Coach award for his role in Liverpool’s 2018/19 campaign.

During his time at the Merseyside club, Klopp has taken charge of 263 games for the Reds, resulting in a points-per-game average of 2.05.

Germany manager Joachim Low was appointed as manager back in 2006 and is expected to remain in the position until the end of July 2022 (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

Given how Klopp still has a few years before his contract at Liverpool ends, he has plenty of time to make a decision about what he may want to do after his break away from management.

As Hughes said in the podcast, the workload of being a national team manager could well be a suitable change from being a club manager that Klopp could be looking for later on in his career.
