Liverpool YouTuber Craig Houlden has claimed that the Merseyside club ‘missed a trick’ by not signing Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic before he moved to England.
This comes as Houlden recently released a video on his Liverpool-themed YouTube channel ‘Anfield Agenda‘ where he spoke about a variety of topics related to the Reds.
During the video, Houlden was asked if he believes Liverpool should reignite their interest in signing the winger after being previously linked with Pulisic before he made the move to Chelsea last year, to which Houlden shared his response.
He said: “I’ll always say that we missed a trick with Christian Pulisic because I was screaming from the hilltops for us to sign him for a long time. I was told by loads of Liverpool fans that I was an idiot and that he wasn’t good enough but, I always knew that that kid was going to come out and be an absolute superstar and that he’d do it in the Premier League and he’d do it on the big stage and I really do think we’ve missed a trick with him, even more so than [Timo] Werner.
“Pulisic is the one for me, out of all the ones that we haven’t gone and signed that I think we’ve made a mistake on. I don’t know what the reason was, I don’t know whether it was [the] price, I don’t know whether we were never interested or whether Pulisic wanted to go and play for Chelsea, I’ve got no idea – but that will be one that I’ll always feel got away from us.”
The 21-year-old, who is currently valued at £54 million, signed to Frank Lampard’s side back in the 2019 January transfer window in a deal worth £57.6 million.
Since making his debut for Chelsea back in August 2019, Pulisic has gone on to make 34 appearances for the west London club in which he has managed to score 11 goals and provide 10 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).
Throughout the 2019/20 Premier League season, Pulisic’s performances in the 25 league appearances he made for Chelsea earned him a season rating of 7.18/10, making him their third-highest-rated player for the previous campaign (per WhoScored).

Given how well Pulisic settled in at Chelsea last season, it’s no surprise that Houlden feels disappointed that Liverpool didn’t manage to sign the winger before Chelsea did.
