The Express and Star reporter Joe Edwards has been discussing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ summer transfer plans.

Over the 2019/20 season, the Old Gold plunged a whopping £109.62m into incoming transfers and sealed the permanent arrival of nine players (per Transfermarkt).

However, only two victories in their final six Premier League matches of the season (per BBC) suggests that there is work to be done in this summer’s transfer market.

So, in the latest episode of the Express and Star’s E&S Wolves Podcast, Edwards discussed the club’s summer transfer plans and whether the club will take more risks in the market to achieve their long-term ambitions.

To kick-off this quiz on Nuno Espirito Santo on the hard side, which club was his first game on the touchline at Molineux against?

He said: “I think their track record [in the transfer market], by and large, is very good. I know [Patrick] Cutrone and [Jesus] Vallejo didn’t work out last summer. That was a disappointing window, really.

“But I think they’ve got to weigh it up. That’s a big decision for them to make, and if the right player comes available and they feel it’s worth their time and worth their money, then they’ll go for it.

“As I say, if you sign your players from the Premier League, you do know, one way or another, whether they decide it’s worth it or whether it puts them off that it’s going to come at a premium in terms of wages.

“Not only [a premium] transfer fee, because Premier League players cost more in terms of a transfer fee, but if you’re giving them a five-year contract on a bumper wage as well, that’s something to consider.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Edwards had to say, he believes that it is a “big decision” for Wolves over whether or not they want to sign players from the Premier League this summer.

Would you like to see Wolves sign players from other Premier League clubs this summer?

No, stick to what we know

No, stick to what we know

Yes, that would be good

Yes, that would be good

During the 2019/20 season, the Old Gold did not sign a single player from another Premier League club and as stated by the journalist and it was a “disappointing window”.

So, perhaps the Old Gold should look a little closer to home this summer.
