On the latest episode of the Transfer Talk podcast, Pete Graves, Dharmesh Sheth and Raphael Honigstein have been discussing the latest transfer rumours in European football.

One topic of conversation in the recent episode, was Liverpool’s reported interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara. The former Barcelona man has been heavily linked with Jurgen Klopp’s side in recent weeks, and Honigstein was quick to share his thoughts on whether we could see the Spaniard join the Reds this summer.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

Here’s what he had to say about the 29-year-old on the podcast: (54:18)

“There has been no firm offer from anyone. I think Bayern are bracing themselves for Liverpool because that’s the club he’s been linked with. That’s the rumours in the dressing room, as reported by Sport Bild, that he has been talking about Liverpool, but we haven’t seen any offer from Liverpool coming in.

“Liverpool have distanced themselves repeatedly from making a move for Thiago, that could just be at this moment in time, be part of their strategy. I think Bayern are now more or less resigned to him leaving, which I think is a big blow for them because he’s been running their game until very recently.”

TIF Thoughts…

From the sounds of things, Thiago will be on the move this summer, but it seems unclear whether Liverpool will be making a bid for the midfielder. The 29-year-old was superb once again last season in the Bundesliga; contributing three goals in 24 top-flight appearances; which saw him average an impressive 7.47 rating (per Whoscored).

Whilst Liverpool obviously enjoyed a brilliant title-winning campaign, adding a player of Thiago’s quality could prove to be a great bit of business for the Reds this summer, especially when you consider that fellow midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum’s contract is set to expire at the end of next season.
