2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the subject of Shaqiri, who has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, Johnson had this to say on the matter: “I was convinced Shaqiri would go in this summer and yet the murmurings knocking about are that he might stay and you start thinking – well that’s probably because we’re going to need to rotate pretty much every other game.”

The 28-year-old signed for the Merseyside club back in 2018 from Championship side Stoke City for a fee of £13.23 million. Since then, the winger has gone on to make 41 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, scoring seven goals and proving five assists during his time at Anfield.

Unfortunately for Shaqiri, who is currently valued at £14.4 million according to Transfermarkt, he has suffered numerous injuries that have disrupted his playing time at the Merseyside club.

TIF Thoughts…

With Shaqiri only making seven Premier League appearances for the Reds last season, it would appear that he is not a very important player for Klopp.

With Liverpool heading into a packed 2020/21 season, Johnson could well be right in his suggestion that Shaqiri could remain at the Merseyside club this summer to provide Klopp with an extra option in Liverpool’s attacking line if the German feels the need to rotate his team throughout the season.
