Football finance journalist Mo Chatra has been sharing some insight into the weekly wages of Liverpool’s players.

This comes after Chatra recently made an appearance on Liverpool-themed podcast The Anfield Index to focus on the Merseyside club’s transfer strategy this summer.

On the topic of Liverpool’s current finances, Chatra spoke about the current player wage structure at Anfield.

He said: “One of the other things we know is that a lot of these players make more money than their basic wages from the bonuses and this group of players [in the] last couple of years have absolutely killed it on their bonuses.

“We’ve paid out so much money that it’s almost made me cry.”

Liverpool currently have a squad consisting of 31 players with a total market value of £920.61 million. This value makes them the second most expensive squad in the Premier League just underneath Manchester City who have a total squad market value of £966.49 million (per Transfermarkt).

According to Spotrac, Liverpool’s highest weekly earner is Mohamed Salah who earns £200k per week, followed by Roberto Firmino on £180k per week and Virgil van Dijk on £165k per week.

TIF Thoughts…

As Chatra mentioned in the podcast, if some of the Liverpool players have added on bonuses in their contracts, it’s no wonder Chatra has winced at how much the Merseyside club have paid their players because of how successful the Reds have been in the last two seasons.

As well as their eagerness to win trophies for the club, you would assume that a financial factor would also prove to be another incentive for these Liverpool players to perform to the best of their abilities for the club.
