Liverpool journalist Matt Addison has been sharing his thoughts on Real Madrid midfielder and former Liverpool transfer target, Martin Odegaard.

This comes after Addison recently appeared on the latest episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast where he spoke about a range of topics regarding the Reds’ connection with Scandanavian football.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the topic of Odegaard, who Liverpool reportedly tried to sign last year, Addison had this to say on the player.

He said: “He’s been out on loan a couple of times, but he’s still very, very young, still 21 and still very much a player that should be being looked out for, so he’s someone – as I know we’re going to go into – who Liverpool have looked at in the past. I believe he was a Liverpool fan growing up and things like that, so again it’s just another link really between Norway and Liverpool.

“Even though he didn’t end up signing for Liverpool, I’m sure at some point down the line, those rumours will resurface because he’s just such a good player and there’s every reason to think that he will one day end up in the Premier League and if he does, a move to Anfield seems to make the most sense.”

The 21-year-old, who is currently valued at £40.5 million, first signed to Real Madrid’s youth team back in 2015 for a fee of £2.52 million from Norwegian side Stromsgodset IF.

In 62 appearances for the youth team at Madrid, Odegaard managed to score five goals and provide eight assists.

The Norwegian has only made two appearances for the Real Madrid senior team and has spent most of his time out on loan, including his lastest loan spell at fellow La Liga side Real Sociedad last season.

TIF Thoughts…

With Odegaard having spent so much time out on loan for Madrid, that raises the question if he is at all close to becoming a regular figure in their squad or not. If he isn’t, then Liverpool could well sense an opportunity to try and sign the player once again, if they could offer him regular game time.
