2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the subject of the Reds’ transfer business this summer after they had secured the signing of Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos for a fee of £11.7 million, Addison shared his opinion on the club’s transfer plans in this window.

He said: “Liverpool should be praised, if anything, for not going out and spending when it’s unnecessary and for me, it all goes back to one thing and that is that Liverpool are the champions of the Premier League, they won it by 18 points, they don’t desperately need to spend.

“The fact that they’re not spending and teams around them may well end up spending huge amounts of money really is just an indication of how far behind the other teams are compared to Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp is more than happy, Michael Edwards is more than happy with the transfer budget and that sort of thing that Liverpool have got to work with.”

As Addison mentioned in the podcast, teams like Chelsea and Manchester City have also been active in the transfer market ahead of the 2020/21 season. Chelsea have managed to bring in Timo Werner and are reportedly close to signing Kai Havertz, whereas City have brought in Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake, while they are reportedly interested in bringing Kalidou Koulibaly in as well to boost their defence.

TIF Thoughts…

Looking at the transfer business that City and Chelsea have already done this summer, they seem very serious about wanting to catch Liverpool up in the league table next season as Addison spoke about in the podcast.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool welcome any other incomings during the current transfer window and to see whether or not they will spend big or try to not spend too much ahead of the 2020/21 season.
