Football journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft has been discussing the possibility of Liverpool signing Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara this summer.

This comes after Fjortoft recently appeared on a video from Liverpool-themed YouTube channel Anfield Agenda where he spoke with Craig Houlden about a range of transfer-related topics concerning the Merseyside club at the moment.

On the topic of Thiago, who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, Fjortoft had this to say on the potential move.

He said: “Everybody tells us that Liverpool are in for this player and I think the timing now is much better than it was for Timo Werner and also that this is half the price where Timo Werner was nearly €60 million, this player would be maybe around €30 million, [which is] still an awful lot of money but I think that Jurgen Klopp, he knows this player of course very, very good and he will be fantastic for Liverpool.

“I think that this could be, not the most spectacular because there are so many spectacular signings this summer but this could be a fantastic player for Liverpool. It’s like he’s a Liverpool player already.”

Thiago was recently involved in Bayern’s Champions League final win against Paris Saint-Germain at the weekend, earning himself a match rating of 7.48/10, making him the highest-rated player on the pitch (per WhoScored).

Since the midfielder originally arrived at the German club back in 2013, the Spaniard has gone on to make a total of 235 appearances for Bayern, scoring 31 goals and providing 37 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

As Fjortoft mentioned in the video, Liverpool were not able to sign Timo Werner earlier in the year due to financial reasons, resulting in him signing for Chelsea for £47.7m instead of the Reds. However, with Thiago having a reported price tag of €30 million (£26.9 million), this could potentially make it an easier deal to make for Liverpool than Werner turned out to be.
