Fans of Tottenham Hotspur have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that the club are interested in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers right-back, Matt Doherty.

The reports by Football.London claim that the right-back ‘ticks all the boxes’ for Spurs, with it being said that Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the 28-year-old.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

Spurs are thought to be in the market for a right-back after selling Kyle Walker-Peters to Southampton earlier this summer, as well as appearing to be willing to sell Serge Aurier, should a club meet their valuation of the player.

After the reports of the club’s interest in the Wolves man was relayed on Twitter by Daily Hotspur, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with many suggesting that, while they are pleased to hear their club are interested in the defender, they are unsure that Daniel Levy would pay what Wolves would be looking for.

Since joining Wolves from Irish side Bohemian Football Club Dublin for £81,000 back in 2010, Doherty has gone on to make 302 appearances for the club, scoring 28 goals and providing 41 assists along the way.

Last season, the 28-year-old made 36 Premier League appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists, averaging an impressive WhoScored match rating of 6.99 – ranking him as the club’s fifth-best performer in the league.

In addition to this, the right-back also performed admirably in the club’s Europa League campaign, scoring a further two goals and providing one assist and averaging a match rating of 7.15 – helping his side to reach the quarter-finals of the competition, where they narrowly lost out to eventual winners Sevilla.

So, all in all, it would appear that, should Spurs make a move for the £14.4 million-rated right-back this summer, fans would be more than happy with the move, however, some are not convinced that Levy would be willing to fork out a large fee for the defender.

It is certainly a deal to keep an eye on as the window progresses.
