Talking the Blues podcast pundit George Costigan has slated Everton’s 27-year-old midfielder Muhamed Besic.

The Bosnian midfielder has been situated at Goodison Park since the summer of 2014 after the Toffees forked out £4.32m to seal his arrival from Ferencvárosi TC (per Transfermarkt).

Since arriving in Merseyside, Besic has made just 56 appearances for Everton in which he has neither scored nor assisted (per Transfermarkt).

Following his recent outing in the pre-season 3-3 draw with Blackpool, the Liverpool Echo said of him: ‘Some deft touches, some heavy. Some good passes, some bad.’

However, in the latest episode of the Talking the Blues podcast, Costigan discussed his performance against the Seasiders and slated him for it, commenting on the assumption that he only took part in order to keep up his fitness with a view to selling the midfielder.

To kick-off this quiz on Carlo Ancelotti on the side of easy, which side was his first game on the touchline at Goodison Park against?

He said: “If that is the case, Besic’s market value is now less than my stair carpet. He had a mare and looked like a player gone.”

The podcast pundit later continued: “I like Besic, [I’ve] got a lot of time for him but he looks like toast, or maybe he was just very, very unfit.

“[He made] a couple of extraordinarily sloppy passes where he just didn’t even look and played it straight to Blackpool feet, where you could go, ‘Where’s his head at?'”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the podcast pundit had to say, he clearly did not rate the midfielder’s performance in the pre-season outing against the Tangerines.

Should Everton be looking to sell Muhamed Besic this summer?

During the 2019/20 Premier League season, the Bosnian spent the term on loan with Sheffield United and made nine league appearances (per WhoScored).

In those appearances, the Bosnian earned a 6.33/10 average rating which made him the joint-eighth-worst performer in the Blades’ squad (per WhoScored), so, perhaps it is clear that Besic is not cut out for the Premier League.
