In a recent article for The Athletic, Matt Woosnam provided an update on the future of Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Max Meyer.
After joining Palace on a free transfer from Schalke back in 2018, Meyer has gone on to make 55 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
Last season, the 24-year-old made just six starts in the Premier League, making a further 11 appearances from the bench, over which he scored zero goals and assists, as well as averaging a disappointing WhoScored match rating of just 6.2/10 – ranking him as the club’s fourth-worst performer in the league.
And, it would appear that the German international’s time in south London could well be up, as Woosnam suggested in a recent article:
“Palace would be keen to sell if an offer was received, given how infrequently he has featured since joining two years ago but, again, there have been no offers. In 2018/19, he played 29 games, starting 15 and playing 1,410 minutes in total. During the 2019/20 season, he made a further 17 appearances, with only six starts and a total of 649 minutes.”
Would you be happy for Palace to sell Meyer this summer?

TIF Thoughts…
Although it is fairly easy to say that Meyer has not performed as well as he should have at Palace, some blame must also be laid at the club’s door for this.
The 24-year-old is predominantly an attacking midfielder, however, over the course of the 2019/20 Premier League season, it appears that he was rarely fielded in this position.
In addition to this, Palace usually set up in a flat 4-5-1 formation last season, which does not normally utilise an attacking midfielder.
So, while it is apparent from Woosman’s comments that the club are looking to move the £7.2 million-rated Meyer on this summer, it is not hard to imagine that this is an outcome that the player could also be hoping for.
