The Shields Gazette reporter Liam Kennedy has been discussing the supposed interest from Henry Mauriss in taking over Newcastle United.

Back in June, it was reported by The Guardian that the American television executive had bid £350m to rival the £300m bid from the Saudi Arabian-backed consortium.

However, one of the latest reports by The Mirror has cast doubt over Mauriss being able ‘to raise such funds’ to buy the Toon for a fee, which is lower than initially reported, of £300m.

So, in the latest episode of NUFC Matters on YouTube, Kennedy discussed the supposed interest from Mauriss.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

He said: “There’s only really one bid at the table [the one from the Saudi-backed consortium]. Yes, it’s not exactly on the table at the moment, but there is only one bid that can be passed if the Premier League see fit to do so.

“Henry Mauriss – I’ve been so dismissive of that throughout. I keep hearing little rumours here and there about this Henry Mauriss thing.

“People talking about it, financial people etc. There could be something in it, there really could.

“But, again, it’s another one with so many holes in it, it’s unbelievable.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Kennedy had to say, he seemingly keeps hearing rumours about Mauriss’ interest in taking over the club but there are “so many holes in it”.

Do you believe there is any truth in Henry Mauriss' supposed interest in taking over the club?

No, it seems unlikely

Yes, I think he's interested

Seemingly, there is no way of knowing for sure what is going on with the supposed takeover bids surrounding the Toon at the moment.

With Singapore-backed company Bellagraph Nova Group (BNG) supposedly being at an ‘advanced stage‘ regarding a takeover of the club, it is difficult to know what to believe.

Hopefully, for supporters of Newcastle, there is some kind of resolution to the whole saga before too long.
