Journalist and broadcaster Julien Laurens has been discussing the contract talks between Arsenal and their star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on ESPN FC.

The 31-year-old forward’s current deal is due to expire at the end of next season (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) and given his impressive goal record since swapping the Bundesliga for the Premier League back in January 2018 it could be argued that keeping hold of him will be as significant as any business the club will do this summer. Arsenal paid £57.38m to sign Aubameyang and since his arrival, he has scored 70 goals in 109 appearances (via Transfermarkt.co.uk) – highlighting his importance.

Laurens was asked to provide an update on the negotiations and here is what he had to say:

“Certainly between the club and the player and his father as well, things seem to be going forward very well and very quickly and I do expect this one to go through maybe this week or at least at the beginning of next week.”

TIF Thoughts…

Aubameyang was the star of both the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City and the final itself in which the Gunners defeated Chelsea to win the famous trophy for the 14th time.

The player’s average performance rating in the Premier League last season was 7.03/10 according to WhoScored.com, evidence of just how consistent the Gabonese attacker was throughout the campaign despite the Gunners finishing in a disappointing 8th position.

The Arsenal fans should take encouragement from Laurens’ update and judging by that it appears an announcement confirming a contract extension could be due in the very near future.
