The Liverpool Echo reporter Gavin Buckland has been discussing what Everton will do during the current summer transfer window.

Last summer, the Toffees sealed the arrival of seven signings at Goodison Park and forked out £107.91m in total (per Transfermarkt).

However, over the 2019/20 season, the Merseyside club endured their worst campaign in the Premier League since the 2003/04 term in terms of their finishing position, ending in 12th place.

In the latest episode of the Liverpool Echo’s Royal Blue: The Everton FC Podcast, Buckland discussed what Carlo Ancelotti will likely be doing this summer.

To kick-off this quiz on Carlo Ancelotti on the side of easy, which side was his first game on the touchline at Goodison Park against?

He said: “As we know, because of [the] financial constraints at the club and our expenditure in the last three or four years, bringing in another seven or eight players isn’t going to happen.

“I mean, I wouldn’t want that anyway. I don’t think I could do with another summer of seven or eight transfers.

“Carlo spoke of evolution, didn’t he, I think a few weeks ago. Maybe you could infer from that, and as [has] been mentioned elsewhere, two or three players coming in, say.

“Which leaves you, if you’ve got a squad of 20-25 players, with probably 17-18 players who we had at the end of last year that played in the Premier League over those nine games [after the restart], or were injured, still at the club.”

TIF Thoughts…

Seemingly, the journalist believes that many of the players who Everton had last season will still be at the club for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.

According to Transfermarkt, there are very few rumours over clubs being interested in Everton players circulating in recent weeks, so Buckland may be correct in his assumption that much of the first-team squad will remain.

However, there have been far more players linked with a move to Goodison Park, so, it is perhaps difficult to predict how the window will pan out for the Toffees.
