Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, has been discussing the reports linking Hector Bellerin with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in a recent YouTube video.

It was recently reported by RMC Sport (via the Daily Mail) that the French champions have been offered the chance to sign the Spaniard, with the Champions League finalists said to be on the lookout for a new right-back.

Bellerin joined Arsenal from Barcelona back in July 2011 and has come up through the ranks at the club (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk), establishing himself as a regular first-team player at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking about the possibility of the player being sold to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, here is what the journalist had to say:

“I do think Bellerin is a sellable asset and I don’t think from what we’ve seen from Bellerin since he’s come back from injury that he’s shown anything like the form he was [showing] before that injury but it does take time.

“I look at Hector, he’s 25 now, [has] three years left on his contract, is this a good time to sell? For me, I’d probably say yes if you can get a decent fee for him but I don’t think Cedric Soares is the man to step into his shoes. If Arsenal are to sell Bellerin, they have to get a replacement in.”

TIF Thoughts…

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the right-back is valued at £28.8m. This makes him the joint-fifth-most valuable player at the North London club at present. With that in mind, Watts may be right in saying that the Gunners could ‘get a decent fee’ for the Spaniard if they do indeed want to sell him in the current transfer window.

However, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles reportedly being close to a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Arsenal correspondent doubts Cedric Soares is the man to step into the right-back position and given that he’s only played for the Gunners five times we believe it is difficult to come to any concrete conclusions regarding the 28-year-old’s suitability to the role.
