The Athletic’s West Bromwich Albion reporter Steve Madeley recently answered some readers’ questions in a West Brom mailbag article and the journalist discussed the possibility of the Baggies making a move for Huddersfield Town attacker Karlan Grant in response to one reader’s question about the Baggies’ targets at the centre forward position.

Hal Robson-Kanu and Charlie Austin, both of whom play as strikers, were West Brom’s joint-top league goalscorers last term, as they both scored 10 goals in the Championship during the 2019/20 campaign.

To kick off this quiz on West Bromwich Albion's 2019/20 season, how many points did the Baggies end the 2019/20 Championship campaign with?

A total of 30 players scored more goals than West Brom’s joint-top goalscorers in England’s second-tier during the regular 2019/20 Championship season and considering that the Baggies are set to compete in England’s top-flight next season, as well as the fact that both Austin and Robson-Kanu are currently 31 years old, it might not be a big surprise that Madeley was asked about the club’s targets for the centre-forward position during this West Brom mailbag.

A Baggies fan sent the journalist a question that read: “Which strikers are we looking at?”

One of the names that Madeley then talked about as a potential target for Albion at the centre forward position in the current transfer window was Grant.

Here is what he had to say about the Huddersfield Town man: “I know that Karlan Grant at Huddersfield Town is a player they have looked at in the past, so I’d be surprised if they don’t at least consider him again. He’s a player a lot of clubs think has the potential to step up to the Premier League, and if they were to be relegated at the end of next season, they would have a proven Championship striker on their hands.”

Would Karlan Grant be a good signing for West Brom?

TIF Thoughts…

Grant impressively scored 19 of Huddersfield Town’s 52 league goals last season. The 22-year-old ended the regular season as the Championship’s fourth-highest goalscorer despite playing for a team that ended the campaign with the fourth-lowest goalscoring record of any Championship side.

With that in mind, it may be fair to say that Grant delivered some impressive performances in England’s second-tier last season and it might not be a surprise that West Brom have “looked at” him before, according to Madeley.

Considering that the £5.85m-rated man was just one goal away from equalling the combined league goalscoring tally of Albion’s joint-top goalscorers last term, it may be fair to say that Grant might improve the Baggies’ striking options if they do sign him.
