Speaking recently on the NUFC Matters YouTube show, Steve Wraith discussed Newcastle United’s failed takeover bid, and that the prospective buyers of the club have ‘said all they’ve got to say’ on the matter.

Following over three months of Newcastle’s £300 million Saudi Arabian-backed takeover deal awaiting approval from the Premier League, it was announced at the end of July that the consortium had ‘ended its bid to buy Newcastle United‘.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

However, the Premier League is yet to give a reason as to why the deal sat with them for so long, with Richard Masters, the league’s CEO, coming under fire for keeping Newcastle fans in the dark about the length of the process.

Wraith claimed that the consortium has said everything it needs to say on the matter at present, and that although the buyers have said that they’re still very interested in purchasing the club, they can’t really say much more without giving anything away.

He said: “My understanding is that, for starters, the only people who can speak – Mike Ashley can only speak with the Premier League and Amanda Staveley and co. can’t really say a great deal.

“They’ve come out, they’ve said what they had to say, done their interview with George [Caulkin], they’ve released a rallying call, if you like, via the supporters’ trust at the town hall meeting. I think the prospective buyers have said all they’ve got to say.

“The Reubens have come out and said they’re still very interested in buying the football club and investing in the area. I don’t think you can say any more. They certainly don’t want to come out and tell everybody what the tactics are, that would just be absolutely ludicrous.”

Do you believe there is still hope for the takeover?

TIF Thoughts…

As such, it would appear that Wraith is of the belief that the consortium has said all they need to say following their withdrawal from the takeover of Newcastle United, and that they will not likely be saying much else as they do not what to reveal what their plans are moving forward.

However, whether that includes the purchase of Newcastle United remains unclear at present.
