Luke Hatfield and Joseph Masi discussed the latest West Bromwich Albion transfer news during the most recent edition of the Express and Star’s Baggies Broadcast podcast and spent some time talking about players who could potentially be departing from The Hawthorns this summer, one of whom was Oliver Burke.

Burke originally joined West Brom in August 2017, with the Baggies paying £13.68m to sign the Scottish winger from RB Leipzig. The 23-year-old was West Brom’s most expensive signing of the 2017/18 season and he remains the Baggies’ joint-second-most expensive signing of all time, according to Transfermarkt.

To kick off this quiz on West Bromwich Albion's 2019/20 season, how many points did the Baggies end the 2019/20 Championship campaign with?

However, it may be fair to say that he hasn’t exactly set the world alight during his time at The Hawthorns. Burke has scored just one goal and provided three assists in his 24 competitive appearances for West Brom.

The winger spent some time on loan at Celtic in the 2018/19 campaign, scoring four goals and providing three assists in his 19 appearances for the Hoops, while he spent most of the 2019/20 season on loan at Alaves, scoring just one goal and providing just two assists in his 32 appearances for the Basque club.

Burke has got just under two years remaining on his West Brom contract and Masi shared his thoughts on the winger and his future during this recent edition of the Baggies Broadcast podcast, saying: “Let’s be honest, Albion just need to recoup as much money as the possibly can for him and get him out the door, in my opinion.

“He’s not happy at the club, he hasn’t done it from day one, it’s an absolute shambles of a signing and I think the sooner that chapter comes to an end, the better for everyone.”

TIF Thoughts…

It may be fair to say that Burke has failed to justify his price tag since moving to West Brom and with that in mind, it mightn’t be too surprising that Masi seems to believe that the player doesn’t have much of a future at The Hawthorns, and it may be understandable why he believes that a transfer away from West Brom for the £4.32m-rated winger could be ‘better for everyone’.

Therefore, perhaps Baggies fans should expect Burke to be sold this summer.
