Some Newcastle United fans have flocked to a tweet that was recently posted by Toon journalist Liam Kennedy that includes a link to an article that he recently wrote for the Shields Gazette in which he shared the latest news regarding the Saudi-backed Newcastle United takeover bid.
As per Sky Sports, the consortium including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), PCP Capital Partners and the Reuben brothers withdrew from the process of purchasing the Toon at the end of July after papers regarding their ‘proposed takeover were lodged with the Premier League in April and were still being scrutinised’ when they reportedly ended their interest in purchasing the club.
However, in his recent article, Kennedy provided an update on the status of this takeover, explaining that ‘talks between the potential buyers and seller are ongoing, with conversations taking place daily to discuss the way forward for the bid.’
The report states that ‘sources close to the bid claim there is a growing sense of optimism around the potential purchase, with fan pressure and political angles seemingly making inroads in public and behind the scenes.’
This comes after a petition ‘calling for an investigation into the Premier League following the failed Newcastle takeover’ was signed by more than 100,000 Toon supporters and both the chief executive of Newcastle City Council, Pat Ritchie, and a Member of Parliament (MP) for North Durham, Kevan Jones, wrote to the Premier League to seek answers with regard to the failed takeover.
After Kennedy shared this article on Twitter, plenty of Newcastle fans replied to his tweet to react to this update.
?? Buyer & seller in DAILY contact re next steps.
?? Deal status uncertain but no need for another deposit.
?? Consortium message: 'Keep the pressure up, it's working.'
