Speaking recently on The Extra Ball podcast, Leeds United managing director, Angus Kinnear, discussed the club’s transfer business this summer and suggested there are ‘three to four key positions’ which need improvement.

Following a season in which Leeds romped home to secure Premier League football for next season, there have been several positions mentioned in which the club would like to strengthen over the summer.

Starting with an easy one how many points did Leeds end the season with?

One of these positions is at centre-back, with Ben White, the centre-back whom Leeds took on loan from Brighton last season, said to be a primary target of the club, with the Whites also reportedly keen on bringing a striker in this summer.

Kinnear discussed the club’s transfer strategy for the current transfer window, confirming that they are looking to strengthen in three or four key positions.

He said: “I think we’ll be able to do everything we can. I think it’ll be challenging in terms of integration. That’s going to be the hardest thing. Marcelo [Bielsa] really wants six weeks with his players to get them into the format that he wants – we don’t have six weeks.

“I think we’ll see what we’ve seen in previous seasons, where the new players perhaps come in four or five games into the season. We don’t intend to do a lot of business, but it’s really three to four key positions that we think we need strengthening and that should be achievable in this space of time.”

Are you confident a deal can be agreed to bring Ben White back to Elland Road next season?

TIF Thoughts…

As such, while it would appear that Kinnear is suggesting that Leeds will not be doing a great deal of business over the summer transfer window, the club will indeed look to strengthen in key positions, hinting at a quality over quantity approach from the club, which, in our opinion, sounds very sensible.
