Many Celtic fans have been talking about the latest news linking them with a move to sign Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney.
The Scottish Sun recently reported about the striker, saying that Celtic are currently ‘locked in talks’ with Peterborough to thrash out a deal for the forward. The report claims that while Brentford have already had an offer accepted for Toney, Celtic are yet to give up hope in the chase for the 24-year-old.
This news was relayed on Twitter by CelticBible recently and it caught the attention of many Celtic fans. A lot of them were pleased that the Hoops are looking to sign Toney.

These Celtic fans seem happy that the club is in talks for the striker and feel that Toney could form a very good striker pairing with Odsonne Edouard next season. However, some other Celtic fans don’t feel that Toney would be a good signing for the Hoops.
Embarrassing

Genuinely don’t think there is anything in this. He’s off to Brentford for 8-10M.

Terrible player.

There is a mixed reaction about this news, with some Celtic fans not too optimistic about Toney. One fan thinks that the move will not happen and Brentford will sign him.
Toney impressed in the 2019/20 season and scored 26 goals in a total of 39 appearances in all competitions for the Posh. In League One, he scored 24 goals and even racked up six assists (via Transfermarkt).
This shows that he is a reliable goalscorer and can contribute to goals on a regular basis. With Leigh Griffiths having fitness issues and the fact that he was excluded from the pre-season squad that travelled to France shows that his situation might not be secure.
Neil Lennon has criticised him publicly and that too is an ominous sign. As such, if Griffiths’ situation continues to be complicated at the club, Toney might be a good option to replace him.
