Many Celtic fans have been talking about the latest news update linking them with a move to sign goalkeeper David Marshall.

The Scottish Sun recently reported that Marshall could be ‘poised’ for a Parkhead return as he is currently ‘coming to terms’ with Wigan Athletic going into administration. The report claims that Neil Lennon initially did see him as an option to replace Craig Gordon but with the Latics going into administration and Fraser Forster reportedly not joining Celtic, Marshall could be available on a cut-price deal.

This news update involving Marshall caught the attention of many Celtic fans. They took to Twitter to express their negative opinion about their former goalkeeper potentially returning this summer.

Can Marshall be a reliable first-choice goalkeeper for Celtic?

No, that'll be a bad move

Marshall is a product of the Celtic youth academy and he broke into the club’s first team back in 2003. In the winter of 2007, he had a temporary loan stint at Norwich but he joined the Carrow Road club on a permanent basis in the summer of 2007 (via Transfermarkt).

Some more Celtic fans had a negative opinion about Marshall and made it clear that they wouldn’t like him back.

These Hoops fans don’t like the idea of Marshall potentially returning to Parkhead. The 35-year-old has been a regular for Wigan in the 2019/20 season, making 34 appearances in all competitions. He has kept a total of 12 clean sheets as well (via Transfermarkt).

It shows that even at 35, Marshall can be a reliable man between the sticks. Since he’s been at Parkhead before, he’ll be a tried and tested option for the Hoops. They can’t afford to miss out on the tenth Premiership title in a row next season and having a reliable option like Marshall can really help them increase their chances of winning the league in the upcoming campaign.
