Speaking recently on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show, host Peter Martin suggested that Rangers are actually keen on selling striker Alfredo Morelos this summer rather than desperately trying to hold on to their star man.

Since joining Rangers from HJK Helsinki in a £1.08 million deal back in 2017, the 24-year-old has gone on to prove himself as a huge success, scoring 77 goals and providing 29 assists in only 137 appearances for the Gers.

Rangers fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Rangers top goalscorers quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one... Who is Rangers' current top Scottish Premiership goalscorer this season?

As a result of his impressive returns during his time at Ibrox, there have recently been rumours of interest in the Colombia international, with the forward even reported to have already agreed terms with Ligue 1 side Lille.

However, Martin claimed that he doesn’t believe Rangers have made any efforts to keep Morelos, and suggested that the club are welcoming the fact that there is interest in the 24-year-old.

He said: The only difference of opinion I have on this – I don’t think it’s a case of Rangers need to ask Morelos ‘what do you want to do?’ or ‘do you want to stay?’ – I think Rangers want to get rid of him.

“I think Rangers are looking and saying ‘let’s cash in here, let’s get the money’. If you get the money and give the manager two or three players that he wants, then sell him. If somebody says £15 million, great. I’m not going to argue about it. Steven Gerrard wants two or three players that are his style of players. I think Rangers want to sell him.”

TIF Thoughts…

While it is indeed true that should the club receive an offer of £15 million for Morelos, it would seem too good to turn down for Rangers – whose biggest ever player sale was Giovanni van Bronckhorst for £12.15 million back in the 2001/02 season – there is something that doesn’t quite sit right with us about a club being so happy to sell their star man.

Would you be happy to see Rangers sell Morelos for £15 million this summer?

Having said this, if Gerrard does manage to sign two or three players that he likes with the money from Morelos’ sale, then maybe it is better for the club that they sell the forward.
