David Wren and Stewart Weir joined host Ross Bennett on the latest edition of the Gersnet podcast to discuss all the latest goings-on with Rangers and Wren spent some time discussing ex-Leeds United attacker Kemar Roofe during the show.

Reports recently emerged linking Roofe with a move to the Glasgow-based club, amid other reports linking the Gers’ attacker Alfredo Morelos with a move away from Ibrox.

Roofe, who is currently valued at £4.05m according to Transfermarkt, joined Belgian side Anderlecht last summer for £5.4m and he has made 10 goal contributions in his 16 appearances for the Belgian side thus far.

When Bennett asked Wren to discuss some of (20:44) “the more likely candidates to replace” Morelos at Ibrox, the reporter opted to discuss Roofe, saying: (20:49) “There’s one that I like, sort of splits opinion a wee bit, someone we were linked with before he went to Anderlecht from Leeds – Kemar Roofe.

“He, to me, is a nice player I think he would actually fit nicely into the way we play as well. He’s quite an agile striker, he’s fast, gets in about the defenders, can finish – he showed that in his final season at Leeds and scored a few goals at Anderlecht last season.

“To me, that would be a good signing, someone that’s reaching the prime years of his career and has a proven track record in the Championship in England. To me that would be a good piece of business.”

TIF Thoughts…

Prior to the cancellation of the 2019/20 Belgian season, Roofe was Anderlecht’s third-highest goalscorer in the league for that campaign and the attacker was also Leeds United’s highest goalscorer in all competitions for the 2018/19 campaign.

With that in mind, it may be fair to say that Roofe has shown plenty of quality in front of goal in recent seasons and it may be understandable why Wren seems to believe that he would be a good signing for the Gers, should they lose Morelos this summer.
