Journalist Alison McConnell has talked about Odsonne Edouard and has provided her verdict on whether he will leave Celtic this summer.

McConnell was recently a guest on the latest episode of PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show. While the panel, which also included former Hoops man Darren Jackson, spoke about many potential transfers in Scottish football, McConnell focused on Edouard and whether there is a chance of him leaving Celtic.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

Edouard has been linked with moves to the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United and Leicester City in recent months. French side Monaco had an approach rejected by Celtic back in January.

While talking about Edouard’s future and how it can impact Celtic’s potential hunt for a new striker, McConnell suggested that Celtic would want to keep Edouard at Parkhead as they will be looking to win their 10th Premiership title in a row next season, but she also felt that if someone makes a ‘firm’ offer, things can still change with regards to his future.

She said: “So much comes down to what will happen with Edouard. We touched on it earlier, about the English transfer window getting up and running next week, and that’s when I think you might have to brace yourself for someone coming in. I just think he’s had an exceptional few seasons at Celtic.

Do you think Edouard leave this summer?

Yes, he'll leave

Yes, he'll leave

He'll stay

He'll stay

“He’s very young, he will get better. He has the potential to be better than Moussa Dembele and I think he is capable of going on to play at a higher level. Celtic would clearly want to keep him for the ten. It is a huge campaign for them. The reality is, if someone comes in with a firm offer and puts it on the table, it changes things entirely.”

TIF Thoughts…

As mentioned above, interest in Edouard certainly has been there over the last few months and clubs could potentially be looking into the possibility of signing him.

Celtic need to keep in mind that Edouard finished as the highest scorer in the Premiership in the 2019/20 season as he found the net 21 times in the league. He didn’t finish top in the 2018/19 season, finishing third by scoring 14 goals for the Bhoys.

His recent record has shown how important he has been for Celtic over the last couple of seasons and his goalscoring numbers are only improving. He is their chief goal-getter and because of that, selling him may be a mistake.
