Celtic legend Chris Sutton believes that the Bhoys can’t afford to part ways with Odsonne Edouard in the summer transfer window.

Sutton appeared as a guest on the latest episode of the Record Celtic podcast and he talked about many things involving the Parkhead side. One thing that he delivered his verdict about was the situation of Edouard and whether Celtic should be looking to sell him or not.

Starting with an easy one- apart from Paris Saint-Germain, which other French club did Edouard play for?

Some weeks ago, Neil Lennon had confirmed that the club is in talks with Edouard’s representatives in an attempt to hand him a new contract. He had also praised the manner in which Edouard has developed at Parkhead.

While talking about the striker and his situation in Glasgow, Sutton said: “Well, we’ll have to see what happens in terms of transfers coming in first before the Champions League qualifiers, but there is not a cat in hell’s chance that Celtic will sell Odsonne Edouard even if they go out of the Champions League.

Is there a chance that Celtic lose Edouard in the summer?

No chance at all

No chance at all

Yes, he'll leave

Yes, he'll leave

“Who are they going to play up front? Are they going to play with no centre-forward if Griffiths isn’t fit and Klimala is not up to it, and Bayo is not up to it? So that just cannot happen. They cannot go all season without Odsonne Edouard.”

Sutton strongly believes that Celtic need to keep hold of Edouard and there is no chance that they will sell the Frenchman anyway.

TIF Thoughts…

Edouard was a very important player for the Hoops in the 2019/20 campaign. He found the back of the net 27 times in all competitions, picking up 19 assists. In the Premiership, he scored 21 goals and racked up 12 assists (via Transfermarkt).

As a result, he won the club’s Player of the Year award and he even finished as the highest scorer in the Premiership season. That proves how crucial a player Edouard was in the campaign and with the club looking to win their tenth Premiership title in a row next season, the 22-year-old can be vital to the team’s performance.

He has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Leicester City but because of how important next season will be, Celtic need to keep hold of the Frenchman.
