The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has questioned if Wolverhampton Wanderers owners Fosun have enough money to break the club into the Premier League’s top four.

This season, the Old Gold bettered last season’s points total by two but they remained in the same league position of 7th (per Transfermarkt).

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side did manage to halve the gap between themselves and the top four, though, as last season they finished 14 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and this season they were seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

However, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers questioned if Fosun have the funds available to boost Wolves towards Champions League qualification.

To kick-off this quiz on Nuno Espirito Santo on the hard side, which club was his first game on the touchline at Molineux against?

He said: “So, now, when looking to break into the top six, the top four, are they going to change their transfer strategy? Are they going to invest that amount of money, can they afford to do that? I’m not sure there’s a huge amount of spare cash lying around that they’re just going to splash on players.

“This is a long-term view, but can they do it – can they break into the top six with that transfer policy? It’s worked for them so far.

“That’s a huge decision for them going forward now. Will it continue to work for them as they try and get to the next level?”

TIF Thoughts…

While Spiers questioned whether there was a “huge amount of spare cash lying around”, Wolves were one of the big net spenders in the Premier League over the 2019/20 season (per Transfermarkt).

Do you believe Fosun have enough money to get Wolves into the top four?

No, they don't have enough

No, they don't have enough

Over last summer and the January transfer window, the Old Gold had a net transfer spend of £87.93m, so it is clear that Wolves have had money to spend on transfers – though whether similar funds remain this year is yet to be seen.
