John Gibson has been speaking on a recent episode of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith and Malcolm Macdonald and has talked about the proposed takeover of Newcastle United, making some predictions as to what the fallout over an unsuccessful bid would look like.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Gibson discussed many things relating to Newcastle, but he spent most of his time on the takeover consisting of Amanda Staveley’s PCP, the Reuben Brothers and the majority backers PIF.

This led to the journalist discussing what he thinks will happen if the Premier League blocks the takeover, making a rather bold claim on how the buying side may react to such a scenario.

He said: “If this gets blocked, without question, unless the Saudis lose interest – and I don’t see them doing that – they will go to court over this.

“They will not just walk away with their tails between their legs, so we haven’t heard the end of it.”

It seems as if Gibson believes that if the Premier League does block this takeover, they will be in for a major legal battle as the consortium will not just give up.

Do you think this will have to go to court?

TIF Thoughts…

There have been suggestions that the PL is not going to accept this takeover bid from Staveley’s consortium, while both the Mirror’s Simon Bird and BeIN Sports anchor Richard Keys have claimed that the deal has stalled.

However, if Gibson is to be believed, then the consortium will not just give up on buying the Toon, and they will take the Premier League to court – which would mean that even though this has been going on since April after a deposit was paid to Mike Ashley, it could go on for a while longer if the PL does initially reject the deal, as it might then have to be settled by a judge.

Hopefully, that is not needed as Newcastle are already currently in limbo, and a court case will hardly help matters on or off the pitch for the Toon.
