The New York Times journalist Rory Smith has revealed what may keep Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish with the club for next season.

This season, the English midfielder has been in scintillating form for the Villans as he has bagged eight goals and six assists over 36 Premier League appearances (per WhoScored).

Manchester United have been reported to be interested in signing the 24-year-old Englishman, however, it was reported on Monday that Villa’s asking price may put the Red Devils off him (per Metro).

On Monday’s episode of the BBC’s Football Daily podcast, Smith discussed what may keep Grealish at Villa Park this summer.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

He said: “I think the view at Villa is it would be very difficult to turn down £75-£80m from someone for Grealish.

“What might keep Grealish at Villa more than anything is the way the pandemic changes the transfer market.

“If Manchester United, who we know have been looking at him for a long time, if they decide that they’ve got one big signing in them rather than two, then maybe Grealish stays.

“The market for Grealish will be smaller than it would have been otherwise and the price will have to be lower, but you’re right, a lot of the power will come down to Grealish.”

TIF Thoughts…

If what Smith is saying is correct and what Bild is reporting on the Red Devils chasing Jadon Sancho is accurate, then the Manchester club have seemingly opted to prioritise another ‘big signing’.

Do you believe that Jack Grealish will be an Aston Villa player next season?

No, he's going to leave

No, he's going to leave

However, due to the fact that Grealish only has a market value of £27.45m according to Transfermarkt, it is perhaps not surprising that United do not want to pay around £75m for the attacker, in any case.
