The Athletic reporter Tim Spiers has aired some criticism of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ecuadorian striker Leonardo Campana.

The Old Gold secured the services of the 19-year-old forward during the January transfer window after the player left Barcelona SC (per Wolves).

Since his arrival at Molineux, though, Campana has not featured in a single minute of first-team action for the club (per Transfermarkt).

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers voiced some criticism of the 19-year-old when discussing squad depth.

To start this quiz on Ruben Neves with an easy one, in the region of how much did the Old Gold pay to secure the midfielder's services?

He said: “The thing you can say about [Raul] Jimenez and [Joao] Moutinho is, there are no direct replacements on the bench.

“Yes, you’ve got Campana, but we haven’t seen a minute of him.

“So, I can’t judge if he’s ready for first-team football, but it would suggest not because Nuno [Espirito Santo] just doesn’t want to use him.

“So yeah, absolutely right. Moutinho and Jimenez, two of your key players, no replacements on the bench if they’re having a bad day, or if they’re fatigued or whatever.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, it seems that he believes that it is an indictment of the Ecuadorian’s abilities that he does not get minutes when Wolves have little cover.

Do you believe Leonardo Campana has not played yet because he isn't good enough for Wolves?
