How well do you remember Heung-Min Son's time with Spurs? - The Lilywhites signed Son from which Bundesliga side?

On the topic of Hojbjerg, who has found himself in the middle of a transfer battle between Everton and Tottenham, Whitehouse shared his thoughts on the situation, starting with his reaction to comments Hojbjerg came out with regarding his career aspirations that saw him get stripped of the captaincy at Southampton.

He said: “Some weird statements to make there, really – if you’re going to make these comments and then go and end up at Everton, it’s a sidewards step for me. To say that he wants to be sitting playing Champions League and he’s going to end up at Everton would be a bit of a disaster for him.

“We don’t know what financial situation Spurs are in, either. £25 million seems a lot for a player who has been playing mid-table Premier League.”

It was recently reported that Southampton had accepted a bid of £25 million from Everton for the midfielder. However, it is now understood that Hojbjerg would prefer a move to Spurs instead.

The 24-year-old signed for Southampton back in 2016 from Bayern Munich for a fee of £13.5 million. Since then, he has gone on to make a total of 134 appearances for the Saints in which he has managed to score five goals and provide six assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

If Hojbjerg’s main aim is to play in the Champions League, then it may be the smart move for him to join Spurs over Everton as they are closer to a top-four spot than Carlo Ancelotti’s team are at the moment.

It will be interesting to see where Hojbjerg, who is currently valued at £10.8 million according to Transfermarkt, will end up this summer.
