On the latest episode of the Last Word on Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Jamie Brown and Daniel Merriman have been discussing the latest goings-on at Tottenham Hotspur and looking ahead to the final game of the season against Crystal Palace.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled: ‘Finishing Strong‘, was Thiago Silva. The centre-back is about to become a free agent, with his contract with PSG set to expire later this summer, and McQueen seems to think he would be an ideal addition to Jose Mourinho’s side. The Brazilian international has made 310 appearances during his time with the Ligue 1 side; contributing 17 goals and five assists (per Transfermarkt).

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what McQueen had to say about the 35-year-old on the podcast:

“If we go for Kim [Min-jae], outstanding, but what about Thiago? Also on a free transfer. It is classic Jose. He wants winners in this side, he wants winners now, and yeah they’re the wrong age – but for the next two seasons, [he] could be an absolutely outstanding signing for us.”

TIF Thoughts…

Although Silva is now 35, he still enjoyed a strong season with PSG in Ligue 1; averaging a 6.97 rating across his 21 appearances in the French top-flight (per WhoScored). Therefore you could suggest that he still has the quality to play at the top, and perhaps he would be a worthwhile signing for Spurs this summer. However, with 33-year-old Jan Vertonghen leaving the club shortly, it would perhaps be strange to see them potentially replace him with someone two years older.

No

Mourinho already has the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, and Japhet Tanganga available to him in his squad (per Transfermarkt), so perhaps centre-backs shouldn’t be a priority area for Spurs in the summer window, and therefore it would perhaps be difficult to see Silva joining.
