Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have been reacting to the latest comments from Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp.
This comes after Spurs-focused Twitter page @LastWordOnSpurs shared a post on their page that included footage of Redknapp, shared on Twitter by @FootballDaily, speaking on Sky Sports after watching Jose Mourinho’s side beat Leicester City 3-0 at the weekend.
On the topic of the amount of possession Spurs had against Leicester (29%) as well as in their previous league match against Arsenal (37%), Redknapp said that these stats are ‘okay when there’s no crowd’, but if they were to do that against Arsenal with the crowd there, the former Tottenham midfielder said the attending Spurs fans ‘won’t suffer that’.
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Spurs fans, who were not shy in sharing their thoughts on Redknapp’s comments.
Here’s a sample of Spurs fans responding to the post:
????? Jamie Redknapp on Tottenham Hotspur’s lack of possession under Josè Mourinho:
?”30% possession today, 37% versus Arsenal. That is ok when there’s no crowd but playing that way against your local rivals, the crowd won't suffer it".#THFC #COYS #TOTLEIpic.twitter.com/HKTngzr2S2

Yeah because the crowd will have such an impact, the crowd won’t be unhappy if are winning games, no one cares about possession if we are picking up points consistently

Despite having less possession than Leicester as Redknapp mentioned, Spurs took all three points after an early own goal from Leicester full-back James Justin and a brace from Harry Kane led to the north London club winning the match, with just one game left to play this season.
Wrap up Jamie. It’s not a possession based system. Get over yourself. Game is about winning, not possession.

I would rather 30% possession and three points in the bag than 70% possession and getting beat or having no shots on goal.

Even after playing for Spurs he knows very little about the club and the fans, right now id say its points on the board and trophies in the cabinet that matters most!

Fans won’t suffer beating arsenal and Leicester at home scoring 5 and conceding 1…. and he gets paid for this level of dismal analysis…. #thejokesonus #THFC https://t.co/XA4n1aOB5a

This guy gets PAID to talk this nonsense – hence why I cancelled my sky sports – can’t deal with it

Clown. If the team is winning, they will be fine.

Still bitter about his Dad getting the sack.

Are you concerned by Spurs' possession stats?
Yes, it needs to improve
No, winning games is more important
Now that these comments from Redknapp have been doing the rounds on Twitter, this grabbed the attention of a lot of Spurs fans, who were quick to share their views on his opinion of Spurs' possession stats and how the fans will feel about it.
However, there were some Spurs fans responding to this post who were actually in agreement with Redknapp on the matter.
He's not wrong. We have already seen how the crowd reacts when Jose tries to park the bus

I think he’s got a point, we all want to see us win and especially in a derby, whatever it takes but if we constantly play one way and don’t win, I think people will get restless.
You pay your season ticket money which isn’t cheap to watch a certain quality of football. 1/2— mike slocombe (@mike_slocombe) July 19, 2020
It appears that the majority of these Spurs fans seem to disagree with Redknapp's comments by holding the opinion that taking three points at the end of a match is more important than having more possession than their opponents.
