Journalist John Gibson has been on a recent episode of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith and has been discussing the proposed takeover of Newcastle United.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Gibson talked about many issues relating to the Toon, but spent a little bit of time on the Premier League’s lack of a decision on the takeover.

He believes that the Premier League is creating more problems for the takeover by not making a decisive call.

“The longer the Premier League leave the thing, the more the people that are opposed to this takeover – the moralists either on the grounds of piracy or human rights, or just on the grounds of ‘we don’t want those Geordie so-and-sos being a force in football next season’ – you’re giving them more ammunition in making it more difficult to say yes at the end.

“You’ve got to get a hold of the situation because in seven weeks’ time, the new season starts, so the odds at this moment are that we start the new season with Mike Ashley in charge and everything the way it has been.”

It seems as if Gibson is unhappy with the Premier League and believes that the refusal to make a decision has just allowed opposition to grow.

Do you think the Premier League taking so long has let opposition to the takeover grow?

Yes, they have allowed this to happen

Yes, they have allowed this to happen

No, that opposition has always been there

No, that opposition has always been there

TIF Thoughts…

We can see Gibson’s point because since this deal was first handed over to the PL, there have been complaints from BeIN Sports, Hatice Cengiz and Amnesty International, to name but a few.

The main issues involved in the takeover were thought to be piracy, but Saudi Arabia has since announced a crackdown, yet still the PL has not decided.

It is clear that the Toon require a decision on this as they are currently in a state of limbo, and need the Premier League to either say yes or no soon.
