On the latest episode of the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Ricky Sacks, Lee McQueen, Alasdair Gold and Darren Lewis have been reflecting on the north London club’s season and looking ahead to the 2020/21 campaign.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode, which was titled ‘Spurs Secure Europe‘, was Harry Kane. According to Mirror journalist Lewis, the England captain was the subject of a bid from Antonio Conte during his time at Chelsea, but Spurs were unwilling to sell the forward to the Stamford Bridge outfit.

How well can you remember Spurs' season so far? - Who did Spurs beat in the opening fixture?

Here’s what the journalist had to say on the podcast:

“I remember a couple of years ago, I was on pre-season with Chelsea when Antonio Conte was at the club, and they’d give this briefing. You get the little sit-downs with the managers every so often, everyone is around, tape recorders are on the table. Some things are on the record, some things are not.

“Conte was talking about potential signings, he said, ‘we tried for Harry Kane, but they won’t sell him to us.’ Conte wanted to sign Harry Kane – now the significant thing about that is that they had already signed Alvaro Morata, so that tells you so much about how Kane is valued by the top managers in European football.”

TIF Thoughts…

Spurs fans will no doubt be relieved to hear that the club refused to sell Kane to Chelsea a couple of years ago. The 27-year-old was superb once again in the most recent Premier League season, despite suffering a long-term hamstring injury, contributing 18 goals and two assists in 29 top-flight appearances, which saw him earn a 7.33/10 average rating (per WhoScored).

Are you surprised to hear that Chelsea wanted to sign Kane?

No

With Spurs having failed to qualify for the Champions League for next season, you could perhaps understand if the Englishman was keen to leave the north London club this summer, but considering the financial impact of the pandemic, as well as the fact that Kane is currently valued at £108 million by Transfermarkt, we feel that a move away is perhaps unlikely.
