George Caulkin has provided his view on the proposed takeover of Newcastle United in the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

The Athletic reporter focused on other things to do with Newcastle, but quite a bit of his time was taken up by the takeover.

Caulkin actually seems worried about what state the Toon could be in if this takeover drags on any longer.

Here is what he had to say about the situation that Newcastle are in and how the takeover’s prolonged negotiations could hinder the club with the transfer window set to open the day after the end of the Premier League season:

“We’re very close now to the opening of the transfer window, ludicrous though that feels.

“I do have sympathy with Newcastle over this. I mean, I don’t have sympathy with them for many things as a hierarchy, but I’ve got sympathy for absolutely everybody in this scenario because what do they do? Do they stick or twist?”

Caulkin then explained a little later that he is worried that this could cause the Toon some serious problems.

“I think very soon it gets very damaging; I think it’s already damaging, but once the window opens, I think that’s really damaging by that point.”

It seems as if Caulkin has sympathy for everyone in this situation and is worried that if the wait goes on much longer, there could be some serious problems for Newcastle to deal with.

Are you worried about what might happen to Newcastle if this takeover is not resolved?

Yes, we could be in real trouble

No, we will be fine either way

TIF Thoughts…

The deal for Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium to buy the Toon from Mike Ashley has been with the Premier League for 16 weeks, and the club are now in limbo.

Steve Bruce said that he was starting to prepare for next season and has plans in place, but with it unclear who will be in charge of Newcastle, it is easy to see why Caulkin feels like this whole situation could be damaging. (37:27)

The transfer window opens on the 27th of July, so will the Premier League have decided by then?

We will have to wait and see.
