Mark Douglas has appeared on the latest episode of the Everything is Black and White podcast to discuss the news that Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium has pulled out of the proposed takeover of the Toon.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Douglas discussed many issues surrounding this news, and one of the topics he talked about was the possibility of the rival bid from Henry Mauriss and Clear TV materialising into an actual takeover of the club.

This is what the Chronicle reporter said on Mauriss and Clear TV:

“Mauriss has got to move quickly if he’s going to do it. Clear TV are going to have to do some pretty quick work on this.

“We’ve been told throughout that Mike Ashley’s convinced they are serious; they’ve got the money – well, they are going to have to prove it now.

“If he is going to do it, then he’s going to do it.”

So, it seems as if Douglas believes that if Mauriss’ bid is serious, he will have to move quickly and that Ashley believes that he is a serious bidder.

Do you believe Mauriss is serious?

Yes, but this is his chance to prove it

TIF Thoughts…

Luke Edwards reported that Mauriss believes he is now in pole position to buy the Toon after the Staveley group withdrew their bid, and it seems as if Ashley thinks he is a serious bidder for the club.

Mauriss’ interest emerged in April, and he reportedly made a bid for the club in June, so will he follow through to try and buy the Toon?

It remains to be seen, but as the fallout from the failed takeover continues, Lee Charnley released a statement claiming that Ashley remains 100% committed to the Staveley deal, so it is unclear whether the Saudi-led bid is completely dead.

For now, many Newcastle fans are devastated, and we really feel for them and hope something can change for them.
