Former Scotland international Frank McAvennie and Scottish football journalist Tam Cowan joined host Kenny Macintyre on the latest edition of the BBC’s Sportsound Scottish Football podcast and during the show, the panel spent some time discussing Rangers forward Alfredo Morelos.

Reports have been linking multiple clubs with a move for the Colombian forward in recent weeks and during this recent edition of the Sportsound podcast, Scottish Sun columnist McAvennie spent some time talking about the £13.5m-rated attacker’s temperament, which he believes led to other clubs not targeting him in the transfer market in the past.

McAvennie said: “The only reason people haven’t come in for him is because of his temperament, and I think [if] he can show that again, as he did at the start of last year, then I don’t see a problem with people coming in because he’ll score goals – that’s for sure. I think if he keeps his temperament right, if he goes to the [English Premier League] – and that’s the whole game to everybody because that’s where the money is.”

Do you think that Morelos' temperament has put other clubs off trying to sign him in the past?

TIF Thoughts…

Since joining Rangers in the summer of 2017, Morelos has played a significant role for the Glasgow-based club. No Rangers player scored more goals in all competitions than the 24-year-old in the 2017/18 campaign, the 2018/19 campaign or the 2019/20 campaign. However, Morelos’ disciplinary record has been criticised during his time at Ibrox.

With all of that in mind, it may be understandable why McAvennie believes that Morelos’ temperament has put other clubs off making moves for him in the transfer market in the past, as his goalscoring record has certainly been impressive.
