On the latest edition of the Manchester Is Red podcast, Samuel Luckhurst, Tyrone Marshall and Dominic Booth discussed the latest goings-on with Manchester United and one of the topics of discussion was United’s reported pursuit of Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish.

The Red Devils are set to take on Aston Villa this Thursday and Booth brought up the topic of United’s links with Grealish when he mentioned that the 24-year-old’s performance in Villa’s 2-2 draw with United earlier this season is what really brought him to United fans’ attention.

To kick off this 1990s Premier League quiz, which season was the Premier League's inaugural campaign?

Grealish scored a goal in their last meeting, and as per WhoScored, earned the second-highest average overall rating of any Aston Villa player in his side’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford in December.

Luckhurst then responded to Booth by stating: “Apparently, [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] made a beeline for Grealish in the tunnel afterwards and congratulated him on his goal and said he was the best player out there, which he was.

The journalist then went on to say: “With Grealish, United did try and pretty much arrange a deal in early February, but then, of course, the pandemic struck and everything’s been put on ice since then and things have changed in terms of how much money clubs might have to spend.”

Do you think that Jack Grealish will be a Manchester United player next season?

TIF Thoughts…

Grealish has been an important part of Villa’s squad this season, scoring seven league goals and providing six league assists for a team that have scored a total of just 36 goals in England’s top flight this season – and currently sit inside the league’s relegation zone

Considering how many goal contributions he has been able to make while playing for a Villa side that have struggled this season, as well as the fact that he delivered an impressive performance against United earlier this term, it may not come as a big surprise that the playmaker is said to have attracted interest from the Red Devils.

Luckhurst’s revelation that United tried to “arrange a deal” to sign the player in February may be encouraging for this potential transfer, provided the financial impact of the ongoing viral outbreak doesn’t have too much of a negative impact on any deal.
