This comes after Pearce recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Red Agenda podcast to discuss the latest news surrounding the Merseyside club.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the topic of a potential move for the Spaniard, Pearce shared this latest update.

He said: “I just think there’s much bigger priorities in the squad to address. To me, it would only really make sense if you were about to lose one of your senior midfielders, especially with the young players that are coming through, it would just be a transfer that was completely at odds with the way Liverpool have done their business to get to this point.

“For someone who’s 29, had injury problems in recent years and would command a massive salary. I think Bayern would be looking for around £35 million, which normally you’d say is very small for someone of his proven quality. But the way it’s been explained to me was unlikely, but not impossible.

“I would still be surprised if this happened.

“I think it’s one to keep an eye on because when someone like that is available, I’m not massively surprised that it hasn’t been completely dismissed out of hand by people that I’ve spoken to, but as I said, unlikely is the way it’s been described. So I wouldn’t be getting too excited about it at the moment.”

Do Liverpool need to sign another central-midfielder this summer?

The 29-year-old, who is currently valued at £43.2 million according to Transfermarkt, has made a total of 36 appearances for Bayern across all competitions in which he has managed to score three goals and provide two assists (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

With Liverpool currently having quite a few names in their squad that do play or can play in the central-midfield role for Jurgen Klopp’s side, maybe a move for Thiago may not be completely necessary this summer.
