Football writer Joel Rabinowitz has revealed which role he believes Curtis Jones is currently best suited to play in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

During a recent edition of the Blood Red Podcast, Rabinowitz said: “I think with [Curtis] Jones, if you look at where he’s most likely to get chances, I do wonder whether he’s probably more suited a little bit to playing on the left-hand side as a sort of cutting infield Mane understudy because that’s the one position Liverpool don’t really have anyone who plays on the left in the squad at the moment, and I think I’m right in saying he’s played there a lot for the Under-23s this season and scored a lot of goals coming in off the left-hand side.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

“That might not necessarily be Curtis’ long-term position, I think he probably is more suited to playing in central midfield, but in terms of actually making a tangible impact for Liverpool next season and beyond, I think maybe sort of that inside left role is probably a better opportunity for him.”

TIF Thoughts…

Curtis Jones made a brief appearance as a substitute during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Premier League strugglers Aston Villa at Anfield on Sunday. The 19-year-old has only been on the field for Jurgen Klopp’s side on three occasions in the English top flight since the start of the campaign and it’s clear that Rabinowitz believes the youngster will find it difficult to establish himself in and around the first team given the competition for places in his favoured position of central midfield.

Would you like to see Jones given more game time between now and the end of the season?

No

The youngster recently signed a contract extension that could see him stay at Anfield until June 2025 (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) but taking into consideration all of the above, we believe the player requires far more game time than he is currently getting if he is to develop into a top-level player.

Rabinowitz did say, however, that despite his belief Jones will find it easier to make an impact if he is to play in a slightly different position, he does still believe that in the long-term, the player is more suited to playing through the middle.
