2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the topic of Shaqiri, Addison shared his thoughts on the winger.

He said: “Xherdan Shaqiri, he was back training as he has been. Obviously, the last time we saw him in competitive action, I think was back in January – even then he only came on for a couple of minutes. His last start was against Everton in December. So, it’s an interesting time for him; if we don’t see him between now and the end of the season, maybe that could suggest that he’ll get sold, who knows?

“But if he was to get sold would Liverpool necessarily go out into the transfer market and buy a replacement? I’m not sure if they would, because you look at how little he’s played this season, there is an argument of course that you want to reinvest whatever money you could get for him, but at the same time, he’s played so little minutes this season, you almost don’t need to replace him.”

The 28-year-old first signed for the Merseyside club back in 2018 from Stoke City for a fee of £13.23 million. Since then, the winger has only gone on to make 40 total appearances for the Reds in which he has managed to score seven goals and provide five assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Unfortunately for Shaqiri, injuries have plagued his time at the club, resulting in him missing numerous games for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

So far this season, Shaqiri has only made six appearances for the Reds in the Premier League, scoring just one goal in the process.

TIF Thoughts…

As Addison stated in the podcast, the fact that Shaqiri has not played a single minute of action for Liverpool since the league restarted doesn’t bode well for his future at the club.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Shaqiri this summer and where his future will lie.
