Gavin Doyle of the LFC Daytrippers podcast has been discussing Liverpool’s former boss Brendan Rodgers after his Leicester City side missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification.

At the end of January, Manchester United trailed the Foxes by no fewer than 14 points, however, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were able to close the deficit and finish in third place with Chelsea coming in fourth, meaning Rodgers’ side will have to settle for UEFA Europa League football next season.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

The 47-year-old managed Liverpool between June 2012 and October 2015 (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk). During his time at Anfield, he took charge of 166 fixtures, winning 85, drawing 39 and losing 42, therefore having experienced Rodgers’ management first-hand, Doyle didn’t hold back in highlighting what he believes to be his shortcomings. On a recent episode of the podcast, he said:

“I’d sack him. When Leicester City were on our tails – as they called it – and people were bigging them up, me and others said ‘they’ll go away’, you were told Leicester this, and Leicester that, and now they’ve done this. He has shown himself to be unable to adjust and there’s no bottle.”

TIF Thoughts…

Following the weekend’s defeat, Rodgers spoke of his excitement about taking Leicester City into the Europa League next season, he said: “We finished in the second-highest league position in the club’s Premier League history. It takes us into Europe and I’m really excited by that.”

Whilst a finish in the top four may not have been the club’s target at the start of the campaign, having played their way into such an impressive position as mentioned above, you can understand why Gavin Doyle believes Rodgers should be questioned with regards to his team’s collapse.
