Liverpool are said to be one of a number of clubs interested in bringing Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie to the Premier League, according to CBS Sports.

The report claims that the USA international is likely to leave the Bundesliga club this summer and that Merseyside could be the player’s next destination. McKennie has been a regular for David Wagner’s side this season, starting 73% of the time in league competition, making a total of 28 appearances.

CBS Sports report that Everton, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are among some of the other clubs interested in acquiring the 21-year-old. However, it is also claimed that he is keen on joining a club that will be competing in Europe next season. TIF Thoughts…

The American is a centre-midfielder by trade and according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, he is currently valued at £18m. If he were to move to Anfield, we believe he may struggle to establish himself as a regular given the number of midfielders Jurgen Klopp currently has at his disposal and therefore, he may be restricted to less game time than he would like.

Perhaps in the Reds’ eyes he is seen as a potential long-term replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum whose contract with the club is due to expire at the end of next season and as of yet, he’s not signed a new deal.
