Ex-Leicester City forward Ian Marshall joined Foxes journalist Rob Tanner and fellow ex-Leicester City player Matt Elliott on the latest edition of The Athletic’s 5000/1 podcast and Marshall spent some time discussing former Foxes manager Martin O’Neill during this show.

O’Neill managed Leicester City from December 1995 until May 2000, as per Transfermarkt. He was the Foxes’ manager when Marshall joined the club in 1996 for £1.08m and the former attacker went on to score 18 goals in 83 Premier League appearances for Leicester City before departing from the club the same year as O’Neill, in 2000

To kick off this 1990s Premier League quiz, which season was the Premier League's inaugural campaign?

Marshall discussed the Northern Irishman during his recent appearance on The Athletic’s 5000/1 podcast and the former attacker revealed that he didn’t have a particularly positive relationship with the former Leicester boss.

He said: “Martin – we never really saw eye to eye most of the time. I don’t like saying he picked on people, but he did pick on people and I was generally one of the people he liked to run for fun on a Tuesday afternoon and things like that.”

Is Martin O'Neill one of the Foxes' greatest ever managers?

As per Leicester City’s official website, O’Neill has been described as ‘one of the most successful and popular figures’ to have served as manager of the Foxes. This article from the club’s website states that the Northern Irishman earned ‘an honoured place in the club’s history’ during his time as Leicester City boss.

However, despite O’Neill’s success at the club, it may be understandable why Marshall has revealed that he didn’t get along incredibly well with his former manager, considering that he has shared that O’Neill allegedly picked on him.
