The Liverpool Echo’s head of sport David Prentice has been discussing what Carlo Ancelotti and Everton will do in the summer transfer window.

Last summer, the Toffees spent a whopping £107.91m in the transfer window and sealed the arrival of seven players (per Transfermarkt).

However, three defeats and just one victory in the final six league games of the season has highlighted that there is work for Ancelotti to do at Goodison Park in the transfer window.

So, in the latest episode of Royal Blue: The Everton FC Podcast, which was released prior to the 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth, Prentice discussed what Ancelotti will do this summer.

To kick-off this quiz on Carlo Ancelotti on the side of easy, which side was his first game on the touchline at Goodison Park against?

He said: “We’ve got to trim that wage bill, we’ve got to try and lose some of the players that just aren’t being used. So, it’s gonna be, again, it’s a story we’ve said so many times before, another important summer in the transfer window.

“It is going to be both incomings and outgoings, but I think the word that Carlo used at the press conference, ‘evolution’, I think he chose very, very carefully, because that suggests [going] step by step, not wholesale changes, because that can be counterproductive as much as productive when you start ripping the entire squad apart and start from scratch.

“You’ve got to try and retain what is working – admittedly not a great deal’s worked all that well this season – and improve in certain areas.

“He’s identified the areas he wants to improve in. In those talks with the boardroom next week, he will tell them what’s the priority – what we have to have to make the team even better and then work on that.

“It’s going to be difficult, it’s going to be a very, very intriguing summer to watch what happens. As much as it’s not been a great season to watch on the pitch, off the pitch this summer could be very, very interesting.”

TIF Thoughts…

As alluded to by the journalist, Ancelotti has already revealed that he will meet with the board following the end of the season and he expects that he will be backed in the transfer market (per Sky Sports).

With the Toffees having finished the season in the bottom half of the Premier League table after it was suggested that they could break into the ‘big six’ last summer, perhaps a squad overhaul is possible.
