Aston Villa journalist Dan Rolinson has been talking about some potential incoming transfers the Birmingham club could make this summer.

This comes after Rolinson recently appeared on an episode of the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast to look back over Villa’s season in the Premier League and look ahead to the 2020/21 campaign.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

On the topic of what transfers the club need to make this summer to have a successful season next year, Rolinson shared his thoughts on the topic.

He said: “I think you’re looking at five or six players to come in and make that be a comfortable season next year to get to 50 points, whatever position that is, 50 points obviously won’t see you go down and won’t see you get into Europe. Take that as a benchmark, do that again the following year, or improve it if you can, and then you’re going to be looking at ‘right, now we’re in the Premier League for four years, now can we break into the top six’.”

After spending a total of £143.19 million on transfers in the previous summer and winter transfer windows, Villa ended the 2019/20 season in 17th place in the Premier League table on 35 points, narrowly avoiding relegation.

Some of the players that Villa signed this season included Tyrone Mings, Wesley, Trezeguet, Douglas Luiz and Mbwana Samatta (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

Despite spending a lot of money in the two previous transfer windows, Villa were very close to being relegated back to the Championship.

If Villa do go out and spend some more money on players this summer, as Rolinson mentioned in the podcast, everyone at the Birmingham club will hope they can have a more comfortable season next year and not become entangled in another relegation battle.
