Liverpool journalist Matt Addison has been discussing a potential summer transfer move for AFC Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly from the Reds.

This comes after Addison recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast to talk through a number of news topics concerning Jurgen Klopp’s side.

After it was reported that Liverpool are interested in signing Kelly this summer, Addison shared his thoughts on the potential deal for the 21-year-old.

He said: “It certainly makes sense, doesn’t it? The fact that Liverpool were interested last summer, it would make sense that they were still interested in him, despite the fact that he’s not played a great deal this season.

“It’s clear that a left-sided centre-back or left-back, and he can play in both positions, would be beneficial, I think for Liverpool going into next season to have a little bit more cover in both positions. I suppose it’s just a case of whether Liverpool still feel that he’s the best option that they can get, whether he would prove to be value for money.”

After being linked with a move to Liverpool last year, Kelly made the move to Bournemouth in the previous summer transfer window for a fee of £13.32 million (per Transfermarkt).

Unfortunately for Kelly, who is currently valued at £7.2 million, he only made nine appearances for Bournemouth this season with ligament and hamstring injuries disrupting his season for Eddie Howe’s side.

TIF Thoughts…

As Addison mentioned in the podcast, it could be possible that Liverpool may be interested in signing Kelly once again this summer after being linked with him last year.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool reignite their interest in Kelly this summer or decide that he is now not what they are looking for to add to their squad.
