Arsenal could sign Chelsea winger Willian this summer, according to Charles Watts.

During a recent video on his YouTube channel, Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal was responding to some viewer questions and revealed that he believes the prospect of the 31-year-old swapping Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium this summer is a real one.

The Brazilian joined Chelsea from Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala back in August 2013 in a deal reportedly worth £31.95m and since his arrival, he has enjoyed successes in the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the UEFA Europa League.

Here is what the journalist had to say with regards to a potential move to Arsenal for the player:

“Willian, I really do think is a possibility, Arsenal do like Willian, there have been discussions with Willian. Kia Joorabchian is his agent which makes that one a very easy deal to do, or easier deal to do. Willian hasn’t signed for Chelsea because they’re not offering him a three-year contract, they’re only offering him a two-year contract – he wants three. I think Arsenal will give him a three-year contract if they can financially afford it. We’ll find out in the next couple of weeks once the picture becomes clearer where they will be playing next season.”

“Willian loves London, he doesn’t really want to leave, so it ticks the boxes just to walk across like David Luiz does from west London to north London.”

TIF Thoughts…

Willian has appeared 36 times in the Premier League this season for Frank Lampard’s side, contributing nine goals and seven assists so far (via Transfermarkt.co.uk). According to WhoScored.com, his average performance rating in the English top flight this season stands at 7.31/10, making him the club’s most consistent performer. Therefore, it is fair to say that the Brazil international still has plenty to offer at this level, however, given the player is due to turn 32 next month, it is understandable as to why Chelsea appear unwilling to offer him a three-year contract.
